Background
The use of GMOs in the European Union is regulated by following Directives and Regulations: Directive 90/219/EC on the contained use of genetically modified microorganisms, Directive 2001/18 on the experimental release of GMOs and placing on the market, Regulation 1829/2003 for placing on the market of GMOs intended for food and feed or feed products containing, consisting of or produced from GMOs, Regulation 1946/2003 on unintentional movement GMOs between member states and export to the third countries.
WG Objectives
The objective of this Working Group is to inform public research sector scientists about, and provide a platform for involvement in, ongoing discussions in the EC Directives and Regulations. The EC Directives and Regulations do not only have an impact on the domestic legislation of the EU Member States but can also influence legislation in developing countries. The implementation of these Directives and Regulations can have major implications for public research in Europe and developing countries.
